The first time I sync'd everything was fine. The next day I only wanted to
sync Files for other purposes, I unchecked Contacts and everything else,
received the files I needed. Later went to contacts nothing there, so I
resync'd contacts. A day later I sync'd more Files, with contacts unchecked,
all contacts disappeared again. Ant ideas "Why contacts disappear"?

That's the way WM works- it assume that the data "belongs" to the PC, so
when you uncheck the data type, that data is removed from the device.

While that may seem to be a silly design decision, the real question is why
are you unchecking it each sync? If you haven't changed anything, that
sync will happen (relatively) quickly, since the device and PC will deduce
that nothing has changed. OTOH, initial syncs, like when you check the
contacts box, take forever, comparatively, since the PC now has to copy
every Contact to the device.

Just leave everything you want synched checked, and it'll all go much more
smoothly! ;-).

and friends. I wanted to leave all the others (business, clubs, others) on my
computer. When I sync, it pulls every contact over to my phone, which I do not
want (way too many). If I uncheck contacts, it deletes my modified (shortened)
list. Now when I sync to update personal file and documents, all contacts
dissapear. Downloading and syncing files is primarily all I need to do, not
contacts. This should be all together a seperate issue.

Use a contacts folder in Outlook. Since ActiveSync will not sync contacts
from folders, store the things that you *don't* want to go to the device in
those folders and leave the things that you *do* want synchronized in the
main folder.

Well, that presents another question, how do I make a seperate (or different)
folder in Outlook contacts?
