Whenever i click the hard drive icon on my win XP Media Centre Installed
laptop instead of opening the drive contents i get a dialog box opened asking
me to choose a program to be used to open the file (XP is treating drive as a
file) Upon right clicking the drive icon and opening it the cntents are
displayed.

Hi!
I'm facing the same problem, and its very irritating, whenever i want to
open a drive it considers my drive as a file and open a dialog box "Open
With" to select the program to open the file.
When i right click it, and select the open tab, there is no open tab, both
Open And Explore are converted into some unreadable language like some virus
language.

Kindly help me bbecause its irritating me a lot.

Try the following, in order:

Open a Command Prompt window and enter

REGSVR32 /I /S SHELL32.DLL

If that doesn't work, in a Command Prompt window enter:

ASSOC DRIVE=DRIVE

And last, but not least, see www.dougknox.com, Win XP Fixes, File
Association Fixes, Drive Association Fix.
