Sorry - I only noticed there was a thinkpad group while following
another thread a little later on, and since it seemed a group more
specific to my problem, I posted there too (I don't know how to recall
posts - is this possible?). My apologies if this offends anyone.

Well, you should cross-post, that is, post to several groups with the
single message, rather than independently posting to other groups with
the same message to each. The former will place responses to each group
in the list of newsgroups and anyone reading any one of the newsgroups
will see the responses; the latter will make you hunt each group and
responses in each group will be limited to the newsgroup you posted to.

Cross-posting is much easier for both the poster and the readers.

I have seen that kind of comment hundreds of times, by many posters in many
newsgroups.
It is short and to the point.
JHEM happens to have posted much helpful advice in ibm.ibmpc.thinkpad. Why
should he have to find his posting, copy and paste it to a response here?

Besides, sometimes the world is just not a "nice" place. Get over it.

Perhaps because the question he answered was the same one posted from the
same account?

Perhaps if the OP crossposted instead of multiposting then people would not
be so short with him.

Unfortunately there appears to be a religion devoted to the abolition of
crossposting.
