I have AT&T Wireless service on my mpx200. I recently unlocked the phone
and popped in a friend's Cingular SIM card to see if I would get reception.
Standing in the middle of his home (where he gets perfect reception), I was
not able to get on the Cingular network; my phone went into roam mode and
showed "AT&T Wireless" as the carrier.

Here in Austin, Texas, my understanding is that Cingular operated on the 850
band, and AT&T Wireless operated on the 1900 band. I was hoping that, with
the merger of the two companies, they would improve their coverage by using
both bands. My phone only picks up the 1800 and 1900 bands, and does not
work with the 850 band. Therefore, my test shows that Cingular is not using
the 1900 band, at least not in downtown Austin. I would have been able to
get on the Cingular network were they using the 1900 band.
