When I connect my 8125 to my laptop Activesync just sits at "Connecting"

Here's what I've checked/done:

Turned off MS Firewall
Verified IP of mobile device 169.254.2.2
Ethereal capture shows device trying to access port 5679 on 169.254.2.1.
Port is unreachable.

netstart shows 127.0.0.1 listening on 5679.

Where am I going wrong?

Thanks much.

Here's what I did:

1. Uninstalled ActiveSync

2. Unistalled 'Sony Ericsson' phone monitor software (Legacy Phone...)

re-booted

3. Downloaded the Beta for ActiveSync 4.2

re-booted

4. Updated the driver for Com 1

5. Set Outlook to 'Default Email Application'

6. Closed Spybot search and destroy

7. Stopped AdWatch Monitoring, then Closed AdWatch

8. Stopped Firewall/IDS/App protection on my security app

8. Disabled McAfee

10. Closed VPN app/Remote Access App

Then (Here's the key)

11. Went to Start/Programs/administrative tools/services

And shut down anything that had anything to do with security/FW/VPN/etc.

Turned on my 8125 (WM 5.0)

Connected it to the USB cable

Worked like a charm....

Now I just have to shut apps off, go to services and stop anything,
connect, and it syncs just fine.

Pain in the ass, but it works...

Did you install ActiveSync initially from the CD? I did not initially and
had all sorts of issues. I did a cold reset of the device and installed it
from the CD this time and it added additional USB drivers. I haven't had
too many problems since - though it's not perfect.

The other thing is that I never restart the device while it is connected to
the computer. I have backup software that runs every day and it does a
restart automatically. I have to make sure it isn't connected when this
happens, for instance.

Make sure your device is not connected to the computer when you boot up (the
computer). ActiveSync should be fully loaded before you connect your
device.

Keeping these things in mind has generally solved ActiveSync issues for me.

I had exactly the same problem and here's the answer. It's a pain in the
aqq, but it worked for me.
Physically Disconnect ALL devices from the USB Hubs on your PC.
Go to your Control Panel Device Manager and Delete ALL USB Hubs
Physically Re-plug all devices into the USB Hubs on your PC.
Re-Boot your PC
