Change the default contacts filter in WM5...How? raxorio 08-09-2006

I grouped my Outlook contacts in several categories. Now I'd like to set
one of these categories as the default filter in my Smartphone.
Contacts->Menu->Filter->MyCategory (checkmarked) or
Contacts->Menu->Filter->More->MyCategory (checkmarked) - (what is the
difference to the previous setting).
Either way, once I close the Contacts and reopen it, the filter reverts
to its current default "All Contacts".

Q: How do I change this default to "MyCategory"?
Q: Is there a registry setting that needs to be modified?
Q: What is the function of Contacts->Menu->Filter->More.. screen?

Thank you,
Radu Iorgulescu

don't think you will be able to change the default selection, but
consider the two following points. Pretty sure this is design behaviour
as beginners often think contacts have been lost when a cat filter is in
place.

If you leave contacts open (default behaviour) relaunching it should
return to the current selection.

repeated pressing of the "contacts button" (at least on a PPC) quickly
toggles through the categories... in alphabetic order... so naming cats
can be leveraged to easily get to the filter you need.

Thanks Beverly for your response, however neither point holds true for a
Smartphone (T-Mobile SDA):
1. the Contacts, once "left" by any means (not killing the app which is
still listed in the tasklist), will return to the default filter.
2. the Contacts button is overloaded by Menu once the contacts app
starts up, so, how does one repeatedly press the Contacts button?

gotta get a smartphone just be be able to help, but can't justify it
costwise... my apologies, seems so much convenience has been stripped by
the i/o options.

Point one is valid. Since I never filter my contacts I never even noticed.
Interesting.

On point two, you have to manually select the filter from the menu, but as
you noted, once you leave Contacts the filtering is lost.

The SDA doesn't have a dedicated Contacts key like a PDA - but this
behavior is definitely odd when you'd think that a phone-centric device
like a SmartPhone would have this capability.
