Hi

My computer runs on a local 10.0.0.x network.

When I connect my Windows Mobile 5 device via USB ZoneAlarm asks me to
allow 169.254.2.0 network and I give that access to the trusted zone
(internet zone won't work).

My two questions are:

a) How can I change the Windows Mobile 5 IP address here to 10.0.0.x?
Could you tell me exactly how to navigate to the right screen?

b) By allowing this mobile device access to the Zone Alarm trusted zone
could this be considered dangerous?

Cheers

Alex

Hi,
ActiveSync's USB connection is using 169.254.2.x to connect the PC to the
Windows Mobile device. There is no option to change the IP address. Also,
you would not want to use the 10.0.0.x addresses because it would cause a
conflict with your network.

Generally this is not dangerous because the 169.254.x.x subnets are used for
private addresses that cannot be routed over the internet.

Thanks Chris

I can reserve the static IP address so it should be not problem. I
assume you can't just hack the devices "registry" and change the IP
address that way?

Cheers

I do not recommend changing the IP address because it would have to be
changed on both the PC and the device. I do not know the settings to change
it.
