Can anyone help, I did a clean install of Vista on my Pc, wiped out the old
Win XP SP2. The following driver installations wouldn't work

1). HP Ipaq 6365PDA - Drivers and sync software
2). Sagem broadband modem
3). Logitech Quickcam ver. 10 for QuickcamPro 5000
4). Soleil Bluetooth Dongle for driver
5). Ditgital photo Navigator for JVC camera
6). Dell photo printer 720

All these worked in the previous version of Windows, does anybody know a fix
for this compatibility isues?

Cheers

OK. Lets see. You mention all these work in the previous version of Windows.
I assume you mean XP, not Vista Beta 2. Guess what, Vista isn't XP. MS does
not create the vast majority of drivers. The manufacturers of the hardware
write them and provide them to MS. If they have not done so, it is likely
the device will not work. It is not highly likely that drivers that came
with your hardware support Vista, as that didn't exist when you bought your
hardware, and in fact still does not exist. Release Candidate 1 does not
mean they are all done and everything works fine.

Only thing there that has some hope for working right now is the iPAQ.
Vista does not support ActiveSync though, so loading off the CD you got when
you got the phone is pretty futile. Vista uses Windows Mobile Device Center.
You should be able to connect your PPC and have Vista kind of recognize what
it is and actually be able to browse it. Then you should be able to go to
windows update and see the WMDC download available. Load that and you should
be able to do all the PIM syncing and most other stuff you were used to.
Lots of should's there. WMDC is Beta, Vista is not yet released, and if you
are using a Beta of Office 2007, make sure you get the latest of that too.

Thanks Sven for your detailed response. Thinking ahead I'm sure regular users
who buy Vista next year will be very disappointed about this upward downward
hardware drivers compatibilit issues, For me right now I'm going to format my
PC clean and reload my GOOd old windows XP professional. Vista has been like
a snake bite to me - paralysing - can't even go to the internet from my own
PC!

Thanks

Well, you know, they call it Beta for a reason. Everytime I go get some of
that stuff there is a warning about using it for production. For most of use
what that really means is you can't depend on it.

The hope is that when Vista is released for real, WMDC will also be ready to
go, as will Office. Should be as 'painless' as XP with AS and Office 2003 ;)
The folks that are left out in the cold, so far it seems, are those with PPC
2002 or older devices. WMDC doesn't support them.
