Cannot Index Outlook warder 11-06-2005

I've installed Desktop Search but cannot index my Outlook 2003 SP2 emails.

Under the Options/Desktop Search/Custom folders and emails I cannot see
anything under Outlook, despite running it fine. I believe something has
changed since SP1, since I used to run things fine.

*Update*

Interestingly I just found the fix too while playing with things, so I'll
write what I did to maybe help others.

I have 2 profiles setup. When I start Outlook it prompts for a profile as
it always has done. I normally click OK and go in under the first selection.
Outlook was working fine.

I just fixed things by pressing Options on the Profile window and selecting
Set as Default Profile, and clicking OK.

Now, despite there being no apparent change and Outlook working in the same
way, Desktop Search now lists the email folders for indexing ok.

Interesting. Do both profiles attach to the same PST file? Thanks for posting
your fix.

There are two PST common to both profiles. One profile uses an Exchange
connection, the other Internet/POP/SMTP connections. Both profiles are
delivering email to the same PST though.

I do know that Outlook needs to be running in order for the Outlook data to be
indexed. Perhaps the fact that no default profile is selected causes the
indexing service to not know which of the PST files should be indexed. Once you
defined a default, it is able to access and index. We might see a comment from
one of the developers when they visit this newsgroup in the near future. I'd be
interested in their take on it.

BTW, in case anyone's listening, I have a similar setup...that is, I
use two Outlook profiles that have the same PST files, but my work
profile connects to an Exchange server and my home profile doesn't. It
would be nice if MSN Desktop Search expected this and knew what to do
with it. I've been using X1 because it handles multiple profiles
seamlessly.
