Can't enable Certificate Template??? Joshua 05-25-2006

I'm working on my cert server and I've created a duplicate of the
WebServer template and modified a few settings on it but I've hit a
roadblock with it. When I goto the CA MMC and go "New - Certificate
Tempalte to Issue" it is not listed. I can't for the life of me figure
out what is going on. I've restarted the cert service a million times,
recreated the duplicate template, everything. How can I enable this so
I can use this template?

Thanks
Joshua

When you select manage do you see the template?? If you create a duplicate
template of some other template does that work? --- Steve

What SKU of Windows Server 2003 is your CA running on? Duplicating a V1
certificate template creates a V2 certificate template, and V2
certificate templates can only be issued from a CA running on Enterprise
or Datacentre Editions.

Actually, no it wasn't. Cross-posting is posting a single message to
multiple groups by specifying the multiple groups in the newsgroups
field in the header of the post. What you've done is multi-post, which
is posting multiple copies of the same post individually to multiple
groups. Cross-posting, if the groups posted to are on topic, is
considered to be ok, multi-posting is not.

Paul,

Thank you much for your response, appreciate it. I was not aware of
propper cross-posting, I really use google for news groups and thats
about it. Moving on to the issue at hand..

I'm running Windows 2003 Standard, not enterprise, so that makes a lot
of sense. How can I replicate a template and have it not create a V2
template? I'm running an Enterpise CA, not a standalone for what its
worth.

Hopefully you'll have a chance to respond to this, I'd love to put this
issue to bed.

Steven -- Yes, I see the template in the template manager MCC, I do not
see it in the CA MCC.

Paul, you sound right on track. Hopefully you can give me some pointers
on this.

Thank you
Joshua

You can't. Unless you want to use the default V1 templates, you're going
to have to upgrade your CA to Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition.
