When I try to sync word files and I have them convert to pocket word it
gives me an error. If I change it so there is no conversion it works fine.
Is there a down fall to not converting? Why would it do this? I have an Ipaq
hx2755 with activesync version 3.8.

The error is kind of generic. It list the name of the file and reads that
the file could not be converted due to lack of memory or the file is read
only.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If it is read only then change the attributes? Pocket Word does not support
all of the features of desktop Word, you may lose items if editing the
document on your ppc.

Suggestion- get a proper word processor so you don't need to convert.
Textmaker is recommended.

There is no particular advantage to letting the AS filter convert, except
for file size. There are many features in Word that Pocket Word doesn't
support. The filter strips associated formatting out and leaves you with a
smaller file. Not converting doesn't strip the features out it, just doesn't
display them on the PPC. Caution. In either case, making ANY change to the
file on the PPC will translate the file into a Pocket Word format, removing
all the unsupported features. That feature-less file will be sync'd back the
PC by AS. (Assuming the last modified date is later on the PPC) That of
course only happens automatically to files in the sync'd file folder. Files
you drag onto the PPC from somewhere else, of course won't automatically be
ruined when you connect again.
