Can I upgrade this processor?

IBM Thinkpad A20m 3SU, running a Celeron 500 MHz.

I am running Windows XP, just fine, but videos in Windows media player are
choppy. I'm thinking maybe switching to a Pentium chip would help, and maybe
something faster than 500 MHz might work. Would it? Could I do it???

Thanks.

This is the windows media player

Try an other viedo player

DVD are also on a 1,3 GHz Centrino with good graphic card choppy

I had a Gericom Silver Seraph aka Dell Inspirion 3500
with a mobile Celeron 500

Videos had been no problem

I disagree. As Windows 2000 and XP plays videos just terrible on older
systems. For example on a Toshiba 2595XDVD, Celeron 400MHZ maxed out
with 192MB of RAM...

Windows 98SE can stream video at 700kbp
Windows 2000 can stream video at 100kbp

As you can see, Windows 98SE has 7 times better performance than its NT
cousins. Although when I am not needing video performace, I rather be
running Windows 2000 or XP instead.

Interesting, I had on my Gericom Silver Seraph aka Dell Inspirion 3500
mobile Celeron 500 Windows 98 installed

On the Acer Travelmate 800 with 1,3 GHz Centrino
was Windows XP

You may or may not be able to upgrade the processor. The only way to
find out is to try it or talk to someone who has. A Toshiba 1415 and
2415 are seemingly identical except for the CPU (Celeron in 1415 and
full P4 in 2415). They use the same service manual and the same bios
file. You can't put a P4 into a 1415, however. But you can put in a
faster Celeron. There are hardware issues, bios issues and so on. No
way to say for sure what you can and can't do with information available
outside of the manufacturer.
