BlackJack IMAP email - headers only problem Ed Garay 09-18-2007

I just upgraded from my good ol' Audiovox SMT5600 to a Samsung BlackJack.

The BlackJack is great (perhaps, as good as the upcoming Motorola Q 9h)
...but I cannot seem to get anything except email headers. I can send
messages out without problems, but cannot see the text of the body from any
message.

I have reconfigure, created and deleted email accounts multiple times,
selecting IMAP4, the correct name of out work IMAP and SMTP servers (which
is the same and require authentication and SSL)(gain, I can send messages
out). I specify in the E-mail Setup that I want to see only the last three
days of email and then I have tried every single setting for how much to
see: from Header Only, to First 500, 1000, 5000 bytes and the Entire
message.

I connect and login successfully, get the latest headers but when I open any
of the messages I don't see any text of the message body, just a link that
says "Message will download next time you connect and receive e-mail" - when
I click on it, it becomes "Get the rest of this message (3K)" (or whatever
the right size is, click on that and I get the "Message will download..."
message again, yet, no text of the body of any message is ever downloaded.

There is one peculiarity: "Receiving Folders" is displayed on the top
left-hand corner of the screen to a long time (minutes). Often, I click
Menu 9 Stop Send/Receive" to stop that and then Menu 9 Send/Receive to at
least get any new email headers from new messages and to send out my queued
outbound messages.

How can I bypass this "Receiving Folders" operation?
I have a bunch of big email folders on our IMAP server that I'd rather have
the BlackJack not deal with. I have toyed with the idea of pruning them or
moving them but I really don't want to do that, it would take me a lot of
work, and I am afraid, it might not solve a thing.

I am also suspecting that somehow the BlackJack/WindowsMobile5 knows that I
don't have much memory on the BlackJack which is why it refuses to download
the entire messages. Could that be it? I have ordered a 4GB microSD card
for it but it has not arrived yet.

I have been using IMAP email for years, with Eudora, Pine, SquirrelMail,
Outlook, Thunderbird, and lately with Windows Vista Mail, as well as with
Pocket Outlook on my old iPaq and Audiovox SMT5600.

Thanks for any help and pointers to getting this resolved.

Have you ever let it finish? On my device, message bodies will not
download until the "receiving folders" bit is done.

That might be the problem.

You can't, unless you use POP instead of IMAP.

It shouldn't have to- it's checking those folders to see which e-
mails it needs to download (i.e. which are three days old or less)
and will only fetch those.

I uspect that the Blackjack just needs some "quality time" with your
IMAP server to sort it all out, then subsequent send/receives will
likely be faster.
