Big Problem with MSN Seach Louis R 11-12-2005

After installing MSN Search I noticed that my PC running Wind. XP Prof. was
taking a hell of a long time loading up and was lagging quite often. Anyway,
I uninstalled it and found that my PC was still playing up. It was the only
software that I had installed for a while so I did a Restore. It restored to
a earlier date and now I get MSN Seach toolbar trying to index the PC but
there is obviously not all the program files for it to function properly. I
did tried installing the program but it tells me that it can not as the
program is already on the PC. So I have a bit of a mess to fix up and I need
some advice waht to do.
Thank you

Uninstall it and then reinstall it. I find it works best if you install it,
tell it to index, and then let it run while you're sleeping to build the
initial index. If it's slow on startup you can just drag it from the Start
button > Program Files (All Programs for the standard XP menu) > Start Up
folder... Just dragging it out of there will prevent it from starting at
boot time. Then when you want to use it you can use it BUT it won't be
indexing new files. I generally don't let it start on boot (mostly because I
don't feel like waiting when I reboot and I only reboot once a month or so
for cleaning and updates and I'd like that to be as fast as it will go) and
then start it manually and index when I'm taking a break.

Well I tried to re-install the program but it tells me that it is already
installed but yet it is not. Can someone help me resolve this matter as it is
getting bvery frustrating to have the Alert box pop up ever time I use
explorer telling me that it can not load up the "#msntb_toolbar_full_name# is
unable to load its config file".

Like I posted before, I uninstalled the program when I found it really
slowing down my computer and then had to do a Computer Restore to a earlier
date when I had problems with the installation of this program.
Thanks

Try this:

Open IE, click on tools, click on manage add-ons, find BOTH instances of MSN
Search (Helper and Toolbar) and highlight them each one by one and set them
to disable. If they're not loaded (due to faulty loading) you may need to
change the drop down box to add-ons that have been used by IE instead of the
default which is add-ons that are currently in use. Find those and disable
'em and that error *should* go away. As for it saying it's installed and
it's not then you might need/want to look for the MSI installer cleanup
package (I don't have the URL handy on this PC but you should be able to
find it) to clean up faulty installs and uninstalls of the packages.
