Battery Charge Sometimes? Cyclops 01-28-2008

 I have a used Dell Inspiron 8200, the battery was dead and wouldn't
charge above 9% until one day it did, full charge, charge lasted about
2.5 hours, now it won't charge again.

Any ideas?

Defective AC adapter, loose connection to DC power input jack, or defective
DC power input jack. There are other possibilities, these are the most
common.

I guess if I am going to buy a new part I kind of want to know what part
to buy, is there a way I can check to see which issue it could be or if
it could be a laptop issue itself without testing on another battery or
ac adapter?

Some chargers won't start charging if you discharge a battery too far. Are
you discharging too far?
