Hi, everyone.
I am running Outlook 2003 on a Windows XP Pro system. I also have
a Windows Mobile 5 device that synchronizes with Outlook using
ActiveSync 4.2.
Recently, ActiveSync and Outlook have refused to synchronize my
notes. When the sync reaches that point, the following message is
displayed:
"Synchronization cannot be started because you are not able to
log on to the network and access information. Restart your
desktop computer and synchronize again. If the problem persists,
contact your network administrator."
I looked up this error message at support.microsoft.com. All I
was able to find was KB305544, "Notes Do Not Synchronize with
Device Through ActiveSync". Unfortunately, it applies to Outlook
97-2002, and to the ActiveSync 3 series. I was unable to find
anything similar for Outlook 2003 and ActiveSync 4.
One of the methods given for solving this problem is to create a
new .pst file and import the data from the old .pst file into the
new one. I followed the instructions given for Outlook 2002 and
created a new .pst file and imported my data.
Now, however, in my Outlook folder tree, I have a Personal
Folders branch and a New Personal Folders branch. I'm not allowed
to close or delete Personal Folders. It appears first in the
tree, however, and I have the feeling that it is somehow set as
the default personal folders structure and that it is used to
sync with ActiveSync. I am still getting the Notes error.
Is there a way to remove the old Personal Folders from Outlook,
or at least to make New Personal Folders the default?
Am I approaching this in the right way? Does anyone know of
another way to get my notes to sync?
Thanks VERY much in advance....

After posting my message, it occurred to me that I could reassign
my email account to the New Personal Folders file. Sure enough,
when I did that, New Personal Folders moved up in the tree to a
position above the original Personal Folders.
However, it didn't solve the ActiveSync problem. I next tried
deleting all my notes from the new file. That didn't help,
either; I'm still getting the error.
Does anyone have anything else I can try?
Thanks!

Please log in for more thread options Hi,
Have you tried re-registering the OLE32.DLL? This may resolve the problem.
Another idea is to move the notes to another folder and then sync and move
them back until you find the problem.
Also, you can specify which PST is the default folder - this is the only
folder set that will be synchronized.
