Is it possible to backup / restore contacts, calendar, tasks, etc to a
SD card ? I'm thinking, if the battery runs out, I would loose all the
data in the main memory. So if I can back up the data, then when I
recharge my phone, I can restore it from SD card without having to
synch it.

I'm thinking of occasions like a holiday trip where I access my home PC
to sync. So when I listen to MP3 and the battery runs out and I charge
it in time, I would loose all my data.

I have a WM2003 SE pda, it comes with backup/restore to sd card. Does
the smartphone come with this backup/restore feature as well ?

Thanks.

Yes, you can get various different backup software to look after your data.
However, the SmartPhone OS has always used memory that is not wiped if you
run out of battery (unlike PDA's, where only Windows Mobile 5 and later
devices use this memory).

Just because you wont lose data by battery expiry does not mean you
shouldn't do a backup! They are very useful for other reasons, as phones can
go wrong / get lost / stolen etc.

That's why I use Activsync.

Oh. This is something new for me. Is this only for the PIM data or for
all data that is sync to the phone ?

For my PDA, I always, always backup. So I'll do the same for my
Smartphone. I'm only concern about the situation where I'm away from
the PC for some time and I cannot sync to recover the data on the
Smartphone, like going for a holiday, or when I'm on a plane and the
battery runs out. THen when I land, I cannot call anybody (cause I've
lost the numbers) until I start to sync. So I guess I don't have to
worry about this !

Thanks very much.
