Automatic sync of files Christian Durden 05-06-2008

Hi,

I use the mobil Version of MS Office on my LG KS20 with WindowsMobil
Professional 6 and ActiveSync 4.5 on WinXP.

When I am back in my office and I plug my LG to my Computer the
automatic sync starts and so far everything works fine.

The only thing what is a little bit "annoying", is the fact that I
always have to confirm the sync of the e.g. Excel file and I have to
confirm the sync direction (e.g. overwrite PC file with Handheld file).

So is there a way to establish an "always the same way"-sync? I want
always the handheld excel file to update the pc excel file? Or best
would be "check both files and update the older one"?

Thanks in advance

Chris

That's odd-- you shouldn't have to confirm UNLESS both files were updated
since last sync and the PC needs to know which should overwrite the other.

In normal usage, you shouldn't be prompted to sync if only the handheld copy
was updated- Activesync should just automatically overwrite the older with
the newer.

Activesync used to be more flexible about sync direction. It's more recent
versions seem to favor "simplicity" so rarly used functons (like forcing
sync direction) seem to have disappeared. But again, unless you are editing
the PC version of the file, there should be no conflict to resolve by
confirming. Is something weird going on (like, for example, does the PC
copy of the file have an invalid datestamp, like in the future, that's
confusing Activesync as to which file needs overwriting?)

Hi,
Is the Excel file opened on the LG? Did you check the date and time of the
files before sync to see which is newer?

ActiveSync will sync the newest file over the oldest one.

Hi,

well the date of the file looks good and appropriate. I have to confirm
it always in both ways. When I modify the Excel File on my LG or on the
Computer.

Besides I do have the same Problem with my Outlook 2007 notes. When I
change a note I have to confirm it all the time in both ways, as well.

Does anybody has an idea?

Thanks
Chris

Christian,

I had the same problem with my Sprint Mogul. I think it may have something
to do with syncing at home & work. Anyway, I gave up & turned it off. I
moved the few Word & Excel files I had to Google Docs. I never really
accessed them on my phone, just used the phone to keep home & office synced.
My big concern was getting the Pocket Quicken data file out of sync. Now
it's only on my phone.
