I have been using two devices attached to one PC for some time with no
problems (Windows smartphone and PDA - both on WM5). Both sychronise fine
and don't conflict.

Today we bought my wife the same smartphone as mine. When attaching to the
PC it went through the usual 'new device' settings (as expected) and
synchronised successfully. When I then replaced it with my phone it saw it
as 'new' and asked me to delete a previous connection and then create a new
one and re-sychronises from scratch. Swapping back again and the same
happens again (it sees the first phone as 'new' again!)

To summarise: diconnecting and reconnecting the same phone is fine - it
re-establishes the connection and sync's fine. Swapping to the other
(identical) phone means it keeps seeing it as 'new' and needs to go through
the wizard.

Is it getting confused thinking it is seeing the same phone in different
states? Is there anything I can do to the 'labels' etc to stop this
happening.

Grateful for any help...

Ian
