I have a HP IPAQ hx2490b running PocketPC 5.0 and Activesync 4.1 on a Windows
XP box with Office 2003. I cannot get Activesync to convert the desktop
excel files to the compact versions to be read by pocket excel. Everything
is checked in the options that should be. But it leaves them in the .xls
format. I looked in the conversion settings in activesync, and there is no
way to change the setting for the excel workbook files under desktop to
device tab. It appears to just convert a .pxl to a .pxl. Anyone have this
similar problem? Is there a reg hack to force it to convert the file?

pocketexcel has always been able to open most desktop excel files, so, I
am guessing that there is something in the process that is missing...
for example, I have never had problems opening excel files on the ppc,
only opening pxl files on desktops.

can you post a _small_ (under 100k) excel file in the binaries section
which will not open on the ppc?

Hi,
First with ActiveSync 4.x, Microsoft removed the option to convert Excel
files in to Pocket Excel format.

So you need to sync the files as .xls and then you should be able to open
them directly on your Pocket PC. Please keep in mind that files with
passwords will not be synchronized and cannot be opened on the device.

I figured out what is causing my problem. I routinely export queries from
access 2003 to an excel format on my PDA. This worked on my older Dell AXIM
X50 that used Activesync 3.8. But now it seems Pocket Excel does not
recognize an exported XLS file created from Access. When I try to open the
exported XLS file on the PDA I get "An error occured reading <filename>
because the file is in an invalid format". However, if i create a excel file
from scratch it works fine. This is kinda annoying. I hope MS fixes this....

Hi Seth,
Can you send me a sample file so I can see the problem?

Sincerely,
