Hi all,

I have tried to set this up numerous times and failed, have googled the
problem, and I don't see any answers anywhere, but this seems to be a common
problem.

I have an 8125 and WinXP on my laptop. Belkin bluetooth dongle. I've tried
both the MS BT stack as well as the stuff that the Belkin software installs.
Lots of uninstalls and reinstalls of drivers and activesync. I have followed
the steps in the help file (I think I can repeat them verbatim from heart
now) to set up the bluetooth COM port and link it to the communications port
within ActiveSync.

No matter what I try, the Activesync "service" does not appear when I pair
to my laptop via my 8125. I always see "Serial Port". I have tried defining
lots of different COM ports, selecting the correct one in the Connection
Settings of
ActiveSync, and I never, ever see ActiveSync, only Serial Port.

Any advice on what to try next? What does it take to get that ActiveSync
"service" to appear over bluetooth?

Thanks for any help.
-Chuck

Hi,
Within ActiveSync you need to select the virtual serial port that was
created for the bluetooth adapter. The com port number has to be between
com1 and com9. Otherwise it won't connect.

Thanks, Chris, but that's exactly what I've been doing. I used the steps in
help to create the bluetooth COM port (which I've done several times with
different port numbers) then selected the port in ActiveSync. Then when I
pair my device with my laptop, it works, but I only see a Serial Port in the
available services, never ActiveSync.

So is there anything else that would prevent the ActiveSync profile from
appearing?

Hi,
If the com port is not listed in the Serial Port options, it could be a
driver problem where ActiveSync can't see it. Another issue could be that
the Bluetooth device is not plugged in and enabled at the time you tried to
select it.

Hi Chuck,

I have exactly the same problem. In my case the BT sync worked for
several months, but suddenly stopped working after August 11th. I did
not change anything to my PDA or laptop, but my System Restore shows a
Software Distribution Service 2.0 at the 12th. I tried to roll back to
that point, but was not allowed to do so.

I can still use BT to use the PDA as a modem for my laptop, but not to
sync, so it is functioning.

Just like you I tried to create loads of new ports, re-installed
ActiveSync several times (both 4.1 and 4.2), paired the devices over
and over, but all I see is the Serial Port.

So if you find an answer to this, please let the world know on this
newsgroup.

PDA: QTEK 9100
Laptop: Dell Latitude D800 Win XP SP2, Microsoft BT drivers
