Activesync 4.5 connection error after reboot ninereeds 08-12-2007

Hi All,

I have an i-mate pocket pc (WM2003) which I connect to my XP pc with a
USB cable. And it has been (mostly) working just fine.

Since upgrading to Activesync 4.5, every time my machine reboots I get
a warning dialog box saying that:

Microsft ActiveSync cannot open the COM port

And then bring up the Get Connected wizzard. If I cancel that I get a
dialog box saying:

The serial/infrared port cannot be opened.........Disconnect the
serial/infrared port from ActiveSync?

If I say Yes, the problem goes away - until the next re-boot.

Is there a way of permanently telling ActiveSync NOT to look at the
serial/infrared ports?

Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks.

Hi,

Looks like the COM port selection within ActiveSync is being used by some
other application or is not available for some reason. When you say "Yes"
in the dialog, it simply disables the "Allow connection to one of the
following:" setting under File -> Connection Settings in ActiveSync and
therefore doesn't try to open the COM port until the next reboot. I would
suggest try changing the COM port setting here or if you are not using
bluetooth sync, then simply disable the option yourself and see if the issue
persists.

Hi Raj,

Correct. In fact I have no COM ports at all.

Right now, that option is unticked (the "Allow connections to one of
the following"), and the greyed out field under it says "No comm ports
found.

However, that setting is obviously not premanent because if I reboot,
it happens again.

Thanks.

I think you will find it is every time you log into your computer that
this happens. It may be you only log in at reboot.

This is an extremely annoying "error" that just won't go away. Surely
there must be some way to tell ActiveSync 4.5 to never ever check a
com port again...
