Activesync 4.5 reports server has changed - must resync everything Robert T 11-06-2007

I am running XP SP2 with Outlook 2002. I have used activesync for several
years with no issues. My new device is a Samsung SCH-i760 with WM6
professional.

I created the pairing with no issues and can sync. However in the week and a
half that I have had the new device, I have 4 times been presented with
message that something has changed on the server and I must resync
everything.

If I OK this, all data on the device is wiped out and a new sync takes
place. This is a pain especially since this wipes out data on the device that
is not saved in outlook (ie ring tones, contact pictures, etc).

Any help with this issue would be helpful.

A related question is outside of active sync is there a way to save the
information such as individual ring tones and contact pitctures?

Hi,
There are 3rd party programs such as Sprite Backup from www.spritesoft.com
which can perform a backup of your settings.

Microsoft does not offer any utilities to backup your device.

Chris - Thank you for the information. Have you seen or heard of the issue I
described -- "something has changed on the server that requires you to do a
full sync of all data".

Robert,

Yes this is a known problem. If you google it you will find various posts
that mention the problem. It is not limited to your phone as I have a Sprint
Mogul and am having the same problem. I have not found a site that shows the
cause or a good solution. My current work-around is the following: (1)
Use the export function on Voice Tags to create a file that can be saved of
the voice tags onto your storage card. You can then use the import function
to reset the tags when they are lost. This corrects what for me is the time
consuming/frustrating issue of rel-recording all the voice tag. However, it
does not fix the issue of ring tones. I have Sprite and emailed them.
However, their solution did not save my ring tones.

I periodically check (like today) to see if anyone has come up with a better
solution. No luck so far. I think it is an activesync issue.
