I'd appreciate some help here if possible.

Here are the facts:

-Installed AS v.3.7.1 on my Win98SE desktop
-Connected the e830 cradle to one of two USB ports on my desktop
-Turned on my e830 and then inserted it into its cradle
-Green light briefly goes on desktop and e830 as the two try to
communicate
-Can't establish a connection
-No partnership is formed (EVER!)
-No partnership = No connection
-Upgraded the AS to 3.8.1 (no difference)
-Uninstalled AS and re-installed (no difference)
-Did soft and hard resets on e830 (no difference)
-Prayed (no difference)
-Called Toshiba tech support (no difference)
-Tried using the other USB port (no difference)
-Must connect using USB port as I don't have a serial cable for the
e830
-Threw e830 against wall! (just kidding)
-Checked driver with Toshiba, it's the right one
-Uninstalled and re-installed driver many times (no difference)
-USB is available as is COM2
-e830 gives message that connection cannot be made until partnership is
formed

Anybody have some different approaches to getting a partnership set up
bewteen these two?

Thanks!

Eric,

* Do you have any firewall or anti-virus software on your desktop?
* If there is any storage card inserted in the PPC, remove it and then try
connecting it.
* Try connecting it to another computer and check if it is able to partner
successfully.

Thanks for your reply Raj!

No.

No storage card.

I would if I could, but none are available.
That would decide which of the two is the problem. But I am 99% certain
that my desktop is the culprit. The question is what can I do to
correct the problem on it?

See if the steps at http://BevHoward.com/ASync.htm#GetConn help... if
not, posting the exact info referenced in this will help diagnose what's
going on.

Might also try the steps at http://BevHoward.com/ASync.htm#USB to assure
a good connection.

Hi Bev,

I remember you from the good ol' days with the HP 200LX!
As far as my problem here, I did read over the two links you mentioned
but they didn't help.

There are no magic error codes posted when I try to connect. The
greyed-out circle light at the bottom of the screen on my desktop turns
green and spins around for a few seconds as an attempt is made to talk
with the e830. The e830's circle spins and does the same. The e830
gives a message that a partnership is required before ActiveSync will
work. My desktop isn't as nice, it doesn't give any messages after the
green circle stops spinning.

Something that is probably related, my desktop started crashing
frequently yesterday about the same time as I was trying to get ASync
happening. This has not happened for a long long time. I uninstalled
the two USB drivers that loaded at boot-up and am keeping my fingers
crossed.

Any other ideas? Thanks!
