ActiveSync deleted all my contacts... Nic Cusworth 04-24-2006

I decided to clean up my contacts list and since the version on my phone was
the latest, I deleted all my contacts in Outlook (which I don't use as my
mail client) and expected ActiveSync to copy over from my phone the fresh
list of contacts.

Instead - it decided to wipe my entire contacts list... how very useful!
THANKS!

Is there anyway to get this info back. I had a spare smartphone with a
resonably upto date list in it which i copied to my sim... I them tried to
sync with that and guess what - wiped that phone too...

So at least I have my numbers, but I don't have my addresses... and you can
guess I'm not in the best of moods right now.

Please tell me this data is just floating around somewhere and I can get it
back.

Since when did ActiveSync just decided to do stuff like that without even
popping up an 'are you sure you wanna do that' box.

Oh - phones are a T-Mobile MDA Pro and an Orange C500

That's not how synchronization works.... you should thank yourself.
If you're using Exchange... ask your admin.... if not maybe this will work:

So I found out... So whatever is on the PC is gonna go to the Windows Mobile
device - right?!?!?!

Been using smartphones for years - never had this kinda problem... but then
I never tried this before either.

Thanks for the link but it looks like it's about restoring email, not
contacts.

No. Since you deleted those contacts, and it would have happened whether
you deleted them on the PPC or the PC end, the synchronization system
concluded that, hey, this guy doesn't want those contacts any more, so it
deleted them from the PPC as soon as you connected it. In other words, it
did the same thing it would have done if you were using the phone, got
ticked off at someone you were calling and decided to delete them from your
address book on the phone. As soon as you connected to the PC, the
operation would have been done to the desktop contact database, too.
