I am using a T-Mobile MDA and Outlook 2003. My OS is Windows XP Home Edition
(SP2). The Windows Firewall is off; I am using Norton Personal Firewall,
allowing ActiveSync all access.

I have had no problems synchronising the calender and contacts after
installation of ActiveSync 4.0. I think the problem occurred after a Windows
XP (security?) update.

I have tried the Troubleshooter. In its log file "Exchange server not found
in Outlook profile" is mentioned and further:
"Pinging Device xxx.xxx.x.x (there were numbers here, which I replaced by
x's) started; Pinging - IcmpCreateFile failed, err = 11010; Unable to
establish a connection between the PC and the device. Get up-to-date
solutions to common connection problems. Please click the following link:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=65257".

There is however a connection between the PC and device... I can sync
anything except the calender and contacts !!!

The troubleshooter results page states no additional known issues have been
found.

The link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=65257 refers to the article
"If ActiveSync Cannot Receive Data Through Port 990". I have tried all
solutions, and even switched the firewall off entirely after which the Sync
remained unsuccessful.
I also unchecked all items to be synchronised in ActiveSync, exited
ActiveSync, and checked all items again as suggested in an earlier posting.
It didn't work.

Does anyone have a clue what the problem may be?

I forgot to mention that I have on the 22nd September 2006 mailed this issue
to Microsoft, but received no reply. I have since upgraded to ActiveSync 4.2
and now to 4.5.0 (beta), hoping the problem would go away... it didn't.

I found quite a number of posts on this error, most of them deal with
certificate issues between the device and the Exchange server. Many of
these posts indicate that certificates were never involved and the error
just showed up one day, so I get the
impression there may be other causes; this solution looks like it may help:

ActiveSync Server error 86000108 is a pain but easy to fix

Sir:
Not enough memory on handheld unit to support data transfer. Turn handheld
off then on again, reboot and link manually. (Don't reboot the PC) Works for
me.

Thank you for your suggestions Hal and "usagi" !

Unfortunately, neither suggestion solved the issue in my strange case...
I'll keep searching for the exact cause (and, hopefully, solution).
