I've got a 'Compaq iPAQ pocket PC', which syncronised with my previous
laptop, which ran Windows XP, using 'ActiveSync'. My new laptop runs Windows
Vista. If I connect my pocket PC to my laptop and use the 'Mobile Device
Centre 6.1 for Vista', will the data on the pocket PC remain intact and
syncronise alright by downloading onto the laptop? Additionally, will the
details stored in 'Contacts' download alright into the e-mail 'contacts' on
the laptop?

Sounds like an older device.

If so, you are probably in trouble.

I had so much grief with my not-so-old but
not-the-newest Toshiba e750's with WMDC
that I finally upgraded my laptop to XP to get
things working again. (Vista to XP is definitely
an upgrade)

I use them for business - these are not toys.
They are needed to WORK. So Vista had to go.

WMDC worked OK with a hp hX2755, but I hate
the interface and the lack of configurability and control
that Active Sync had.

As Mr Green indicated, it depends a little on the device. WMDC supports
PPC2003 and better, so older devices are a no-go. Seems better results occur
with PPC2003SE and better.

Assuming you were syncing with Outlook, and will continue to do so with
Vista, the initial sync 'should' combine what is in Outlook on the Vista box
and what is on your PPC. A backup to mitigate the 'should' part is highly
recommended.

WMDC center syncs with Outlook only, as did AS. It does not sync with Vista
Contacts or Vista Mail, just as AS did not sync with Outlook Express.

It doesn't matter what device you're using: You're going to miss ActiveSync.
WMDC is nothing but a pain -- I've had so many problems syncing both WM
Standard and Pro devices that I've just given up. Mobile Favorites
contained in folders get deleted, I've lost them for good -- had them just
right with ActiveSync. In WMDC, it takes forever to complete a sync, and
that's if it finishes -- most often it just hangs, brings my device and
laptop to a crawl until I give up and disconnect. I recently reformatted my
hard drive and reinstalled Vista in hopes it would all just work. No luck.

Really wish there was an option to use ActiveSync with Vista -- WMDC is a
great promotional tool for the iPhone.
