I posted this in another newsgroup and didn't get a response. Hopefully
this is the correct place for this issue.

I have a Sprint PPC-6700 and I have the ROM update on it. I'm syncing to
Exchange 2003 using DirectPush and it is working great using both EVDO and
also WiFi.

The problem I am having is when the phone is in the cradle connected to a PC
on the same LAN as the Exchange server. I know that the new ActiveSync and
Windows Mobile 5.0 use IP, so I did some troubleshooting and found that the
IP address when connected to PC is on the 169.254.x.x subnet and my network
is 192.168.x.x subnet.

When the phone is connected to my WiFi network, it's IP address is also on
the 192.168.x.x subnet and ActiveSync from the phone works.

Any ideas? Thanks.

This sounds very similar to my issue... WM 5.0 on Cingular 8125 and AS 4.1
on my PC which is on the same physical Lan as the Exchange server... It
all worked fine for a couple of weeks.... but now, my phone will sync
correctly over the air, but no when connected to my PC via USB... It
connects, then as it is checking for changes, it initiates a GPRS
connection and never succeeds with Synchnronization... very frustrating...
I don't know what changed as this was all working fine over the air and
via USB for a few weeks (new phone about a month ago)... I wonder if some
update to SBS2003 caused this issue?? My IT consultant says everything
looks fine on the server and outlook is working fine.... and phone is
syncing over the air... just NOT over USB!! annoying!

Check your network settings for what connection it should use for automatic
internet access.
I can simulate the same here. If I set the program to access the web by the
WLAN instead of the GPRS service, I can sync when connected via USB.
This must be a bug, which is very annoying since you always have to flip
this setting (office - not in office - office...).

Thanks for the suggestion. I've tried this about a thousand times and it
isn't any better.

I read on another site, someone who was having this problem and did a hard
reset to fix it. I may try that. I just figured maybe one of the MVP might
have some insight.
