I have a problem mit ActiveSync 4.5: I had ActiveSync 4.2 (or so) installed
and when I plug in a Windows Mobile 5 Device, ActiveSync said, that I have to
install a newer Version of ActiveSync. After I installed ActiveSync 4.5 I can
no longer connect to the devices (I have tried multiple devices).

There is the error message "Critical communication services failed to start"
or "Cannot verify the version of ActiveSync on your device. A program such
as a firewall may be blocking a port ActiveSync uses to connect to the
device, or you may need to upgrade to a more recent version od
ActiveSync on the PC".

Before the error message ActiveSync asks for the device-password and after
the error message the ActiveSync Icon in the taskbar tray is green. But I
cant browse the device.

The logfiles say:
wcescomm.log:
CesProxy: Close Win socket 990.
Connection: Init RAPI port failed 0x8007271D.

Hi Raj

No, I am not using any firewall software (even deactivated the Microsoft
Firewall). Also ActiveSync 4.2 did work before. I tried to uninstall
ActiveSync 4.5 and reinstall ActiveSync 4.2 - but now there are the same
errors as with ActiveSync 4.5.

I do have the Cisco VPN and Fortigate VPN Clients installed (but both
deactivated). Also I have the VPN Clients and ActiveSync 4.5 working together
on my other Computers, so I don't think thats the problem.

thx
Michael

Hi,
Some software firewalls prevent other networks from connecting to your PC.
This is usually called a split horizon. You will need to work with your
network administrator to allow you to sync.
