I'm posting this in the hope that I can confirm the Smartphone/OS
compatibility requirements.

I currently, own an Orange SPV C500 smartphone running Windows Mobile 2003
Second Edition and I'm running Active Sync 3.8. I'm looking to upgrade to
ActiveSync 4.1 and I have read two different system reqirements regarding
the Windows Mobile device which is used.

According to the following URL:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/downloads/activesync41.mspx

Which states the following "For customers using Windows Mobile 2003 or 2002
powered devices, please continue using ActiveSync 3.8"

I have also reviewed the Readme file which I downloaded along with the
ActiveSync 4.1 setup file. It lists Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition as a
supported device.

If someone would be able to confirm, I'd be most appreciated. As I'm
looking to upgrade to this new version of ActiveSync. I'm also looking to
upgrade to an Orange SPV C600 in a few days.

Many thanks in advance.

Neil, I am pretty sure I was using 4.0 with my SMT 5600 (Windows Mobile
2003) and it did not seem to add any functionality. However, 4.1 with my
Cingular 2125 (Windows Mobile 5) it looks very different. Given that
without the Windows Mobile 5 device I would put off the upgrade to 4.1 until
you get the C600.

AS4.1 is backwards compatible with PPCs at least back to the original 2000
OS. It however, provides no benefit to devices before WM5, and in fact
reduces some capability (WiFi Sync). It essentially uses 3.8 code to provide
that compatibility, which is why it looks just like 3.8 when a pre-WM5
device is connected, and looks different when a WM5 device is connected. If
you have one or more WM5 devices, you will need to upgrade to AS4.x, but you
will not lose the ability to sync with earlier devices. If you have no WM5
devices, there is no good reason to upgrade.

My Orange SPV C500 smartphone running Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition
used to sync with v3.7 and v3.8 quite happily.
I then got an Axim x51v, and now both the Axim and the C500 sync very
happily with ActiveSync V4.1.

You can't sync both at the same time, but as long as neither is connected,
you can connect either one and away it goes.

We have just started using C600s at work and are having trouble with getting
Activesync to recognise the phone over USB. It works perfectly with IR. I have
read some stuff about firewalls causing problems with this and funnily enough
we use Check Point SecureClient. But even with this disabled it doesn't work.
