I am having severe problems with the new ActiveSync 4.0 that shipped
with a
new Dell PocketPC. I have searched, googled, and now I am posting here.
Here
is a run-down of the scenario.

1. My users have redirected folders to their building's server. The
redirection is done using a GPO with only user settings enabled.

2. Various settings on my users' PC are controlled by a GPO with only
computer settings enabled.

3. Users in my environment run with standard (non-admin) rights.

4. The user has Windows XP SP2.

5. I granted admin rights to the user with the new handheld temporarily
so
that I could install ActiveSync as them. (This is all I had to do to
get
ActiveSync 3.8 working).

6. After the install, I am getting the dreaded 85010014 error.

7. Over the course of troubleshooting this problem, the only way I can
get
it to work is to:

a. Remove the PC from the OU with the GPO linked into the Computers
container.
b. Move the user's account from the OU with the GPO link into the Users

container.
c. Delete the local folder for the user from C:\Documents and Settings

So, I need some help because the user and the PC MUST have these GPO
settings applied. Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

Sincerely,
Hunter

Hi,
Do you have folder redirection enabled? This is one source of the problem.

Unfortunately, I do not have an answer, but here is a link to an excellent
site for Axim owners. The forums there have helped me a lot.

I know this will not help, but I have to make the comment. In my experience
with AS 4.0 and those I have read. If you have anything more then a vanilla
network environment, AS 4.0 is going to get hosed. As the other reply is
showing you will have to disable folder redirection, and if you are
restricting the network conncetion that AS replies in any way it is going to
fail.

Thanks for the input but I am still struggling with this! I just cannot
believe that the new version of ActiveSync will not work with folder
redirection. Unreal. Why bother using GPOs to redirect if it seems to
break everything. This is simply unacceptable poor quality from
Microsoft.
