I have 2 PCs setup with ActiveSync 3.7.1 running WinXP Pro. Sometimes when a
user reboots and logs into the machine they get this message:
WCESCOMM.EXE
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142).
I've tried reinstalling AS but that doesn't work. The only thing that works
is reinstalling the OS. I did that and a few days later we began getting the
error again. It seems to occur after a Windows security patch followed by a
reboot of the PC.
Does anyone know how to permanently fix this problem? Not installing
security patches is not an acceptable solution for us. The only solution I
found on the net was to upgrade to Symantec AV 8.1 but we run McAfee
Enterprise 8.0i. I found one article by Chris De Herrera that suggested
finding a solution on Elron Software's KB but that site is no longer on the
net. From searching the net it sure looks like there are plenty of people
experiencing the same problem yet no fix.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Yes I am in the same situation as you are.
I have had the IT people here at the office try to figure it out and no
such luck.
I am amazed that there is not a fix for this.

I had been working with this no problems the only new program installed on
my PC was Visio

and Microsoft updates.

Now I can install AS and install AS and it will not work... period.

I need my Calender and Contacts Updated on Phone... hopefully someone has a
fix soon.

No NAV we use McAfee

Had this issue on my laptop and reinstalled AS and it corrected itself so
far...
Thanks

We ended up installing the latest version of ActiveSync - 4.5. So far so
good. But we've gone weeks before with AS seeming to be ok only to get the
error again. It seems to reoccur right after we install MS patches and
reboot the workstation.

OK someone has to fix this .... I have AS 4.5 and have run several different
registry cleaners ... and removed and reinstalled 4.5 many many times ... but
still the same error ... can somebody fix this? Someone said "Elron
software" had a fix .... but the fix is no longer there. ....

ugh
