I had to do a hard reset on my Axim x50v. In setting up the Active Sync
after the hard reset I had to recreate the partnership (one machine only).
The new partnership has a new name and stores files in a different location.
Is there any way to use the partnership created prior to the hard reset
(using information from my PC)? If not is there a way to change the name of
the partnership and location of where files are stored on my PC. I am using
ActiveSync 4.5 on the PC and unknown version on Axim.

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

You can copy the files from your old location to the new sync folder or else
you can edit the Briefcase Key" within the registry under:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE
Services\Partners\xxxxxxxx\Services\Synchronization

and make it point to the old folder location.

You can edit the partnership name on your device - Tap Start -> Settings ->
System -> About -> Device ID.

Raj,

I was able to follow your instructions and had no problem other than it did
not solve my issue.

The ID on my Axim is "Pocket_PC" and I have a partnership with the same
name. When I try to sync, my laptop does not recognize the partnership and I
have to establish a new partnership. I guess I could do that and then change
names and directories, but is there a way to get my PC\Axim to use the
existing partnership?

Thanks for your help again.

Actually no, there is no 'existing partnership' left, only remnants of an
old partnership. The PPC actually creates a new unique key when you hard
reset it. It is this key that is used to cement the partnership. The refusal
to let you use the name over is to keep you from confusing yourself. All the
files that you had sync'd would be in the My Pocket_PC folder on the
desktop. All the PIM stuff should be up to date in Outlook.

If you delete the partnership in ActiveSync, and answer NO to the question
if you want to delete the sync'd files folder, you can rename the PPC to
what it was named before, and create a 'new' partnership. If you sync files
again, it will not try to re-create the sync folder on the PC, but rather
use the one that already exists.

I would of course suggest copying all the files in the My Pocket_PC folder
into a temp folder, just to ensure no disasters.
