Hi,
i have a problem while synching from a exchange 2003 sp2 with my
smartphone (windows mobile 5, active sync 4.1).
Before I installed sp2 on the server I got a message like this on the
smartphone: "Your account on the server doesn't have the permission to
sync" and a support code (0x85010004). I checked the OMA and mobile
settings on the server global and for the user but couldn't find an
error. Meanwhile I installed sp2 for Exchange on the server, now I get
an error message like this on the phone: "Active Sync encountered a
problem on the server" and a new support code (0x85010014).
I found some articles to that topic and support code but unfortenetely
no one could solve this problem so i decided to setup a topic myself.

The server has a very poor setup and nearly no security (neither ISA
nor a physical firewall is installed, please don't blame me, I didn't
installed the server, just got the job to set up the Sync).

If anyone can help, please do so!
Thanks Michael

With the error code you have, I think you are almost there. I finally got
everything working after 2 weeks on/off working on this project with a Treo
700w. It's been frustrating.

Apparently there are three key things to do:

1. Use a certificate on the Exchange server that utilizes the same name as
the FQDN as the server, i.e. if the Internet name of the server is
"mail.domain1.com", then the certificate must be issued to "mail.domain1.com".

2. Get the Trusted Root Certificate from the server to the mobile device. To
be safe you may also want to do the same with the certificate from the "Other
People" certificate store.

3. If your server isn't a Front-end Exchange 2003 server or a SBS 2003
server follow one of the resolution methods in
"http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;886346". That was
the hardest one to find out.

Hi guys,
unfortenetely i wasn't able to solve the problem yet.

@Ken: Your link
"http://blogs.flaphead.dns2go.com/archive/2005/11/21/3202.aspx" never
worked, so i couldn't try it.

@DonL: The company doesn't have a certificate and doesn't want to buy
one, OWA works on port 80...
The server is a SBS and I don't get a "HTTP_500" error-code, so I
didn't try to solve it as it is explained on the Microsoft page you
mentioned.

Thanks so far,
any other ideas?

I think I read somewhere that it won't work without a certificate.
Fortunately, you don't need to buy one. Just make a server a "Certificate"
server and create your own certificate. That's what I do. You should probably
be using SSL (443) for OWA anyway.

I may have referred you to the wrong KBA. Everything clicked for me when I
read "http://support.microsoft.com/kb/817379".
