Hello, I have a Dopod D810 PDA/Phone running on Windows 5.0 and I just
upgraded to Active Sync 4.5. My PC is a laptop running on Windows XP and I
use a USB Dongle Bluetooth by Jabra for Bluetooth signal on my PC.

I can sync my phone with my PC using the USB cable. And I can pair my phone
to my PC using bluetooth (I can play music from my phone on my PC) My problem
is is that I cannot get ActiveSync to Snyc using bluetooth between my phone
and PC.

My key problem in configuring is I go to ActiveSync on my phone, tap menu,
tap "connect via bluetooth". My phone says "cannot find existing
partnership..." I tap "yes" to "setup a partnership". I tap "add new device".
My phone searches and finds my PC. I choose my PC and tap "next". When I try
to use a PIN, my phone and PC never find each other. When I skip the PIN, the
next screen says select service and I have four choices "Hands Free" "Serial
Port" "Dialup Networking" & "Wireless Stereo". There is no mention of active
Sync like the picture in the instruction manual. I have tried working with
the COM Ports but nothing still.

What do I do to ActiveSync my phone to my PC using bluetooth? Where can I
find assistance/info on this?

Hi,
Did you select the virtual com port for your Bluetooth adapter in ActiveSync
4.5 - File - Connection Settings? Also, keep in mind that ActiveSync only
supports Com1-Com9 for this setting.

"Did you select the virtual com port for your Bluetooth adapter in ActiveSync
4.5 - File - Connection Settings?"
- In ActiveSnyc 4.5 - File - Connection Settings - I selected the Bluetooth
Serial Port COM5 and tried to connect, then I selected Bluetooth Serial Port
COM7 and nothing and then I selected Bluetooth Serial Port (2) COM8 and
nothing and I also tried ActiveSync COM4. So I tried 4 different COM
combinations on the ActiveSync Connection Settings - all COM settings I found
in the Bluetooth Configuration "local Serivces" tab and the "Client
applications" tab.

I have a vague grasp of what I am doing here. I haven't exceeded COM9 yet so
that isn't a problem. I know that my phone and PC are connecting with
Bluetooth cause I can perform other services that I can select to use from My
Bluetooth Places (like "Network Access Point", "OBEX Object Push", "Voice
Gateway" and "Serial Port") but neither will offer me the service of
ActiveSync to select.

When I follow the User Guide instructions for the phone, I start with the
Bluetooth Setup Wizard on my PC and it never is able to pair to my phone with
a PIN. My phone recieves a message that my laptop wants to connect and my
phone prompts me for a PIN to connect but they never pair successfully, PC
always fails. When I skip the PIN pairing, I am offered "ActiveSync" as a
service (along with the other I mentioned above) to select with the PC
Bluetooth Setup Wizard - I select ActiveSync - click Finish and then the
ActiveSync icon on the taskbar at the bottom lights up, I click on that and
the Active Sync box appears and tells me nothing and Active Sync isn't
offered on My Bluetooth Places.

That is all the objective info I can offer, what should I try next? Where
can I find assistance/support on line? I feel that it may be something simple
that I'm not enabling possibly. I haven't played with it too much so I don't
think I've done anything to complicate it.

Thanks for you help

Hi,
The pairing is mandatory. So you will need to identify what is not allowing
the pairing to complete. I would see if turning off any software firewall
would help.

I found your page while looking for help in setting up ActiveSync through
Bluetooth (I'm using a PocketPC 6700 and ActiveSync 4.5 on a Windows XP laptop).
After a lot of frustration, I found the answer in, of all places, the ActiveSync
help. Go into Help in ActiveSync on your computer, do a search for this help
topic: "Connect to ActiveSync using Bluetooth." This has 3 subtopic steps:
- "Step 1 Set up a Bluetooth COM port"
- "Step 2 Set up ActiveSync to use the Bluetooth COM port"
- "Step 3 Start Bluetooth sync from your device"

When you've completed those, access this help topic:
"Create a Bluetooth partnership from a device."

I'd bet you can find each of these online as well. This worked really well for
me. Hope this helps!
