Acer Aspire LCD problems GTD 11-16-2007

I have an Acer Aspire 1800 series laptop. It had, for a few months, a
vertical band about 3/4 inches wide in about the middle of the left half
of the screen that went from top to bottom, and was brighter than it
should have been, and it faded and returned from time to time. Now, The
entire left half is screwed up, being black with random vertical lines
and bands, sometimes a rapidly changing array of vertical lines and
bands. The right half works fine, and an attached monitor works
perfectly all around. Any idea what this is? Does it sound like it is
the LCD? Is there anything else it could be? I had the backlight
replaced about a year or so ago, , but it worked OK after that. Any help
will be appreciated. Thanks, Greg.

My Acer Aspire has the same problem few months ago, it was under
warranty so I send it to service centre and replace the whole LCD!

This is my view:
For Acer Aspire, one must handler it vary carefully, not to apply
pressure to the edge of the display.

When you are putting the laptop into the carry bag, or when taking out
from the carry bag, and if you use one hand only (photo below), you
apply a very strong pressure to the lcd display and that will damage the
lcd. That was my experience.

On the other hand, I had left my Aspire 3003 on the couch and my daughter
sat on it by mistake. No damage. Lucky me
