Sounds like a Connection Manager configuration issue. By default, Connection
Manager assumes all dotted addresses to be "The Internet" and non-dotted
addresses to be "Work". Since you can connect to mainpc, I would guess that
Connection Manager thinks your network card can connect to "Work" addresses
only. This means that Connection Manager-enabled apps such as Pocket IE and
MSN Messenger will be unable to connect to internet hosts.
If you don't mind losing the ability to connect to mainpc, one quick
solution is to tell Connection Manager that your network card connects to
"The Internet". Go to Start -> Settings -> Connections -> Network Cards and
change the setting in the drop-down box at the top from "Work" to "The
Internet". You should then be able to connect to Internet hosts using Pocket
IE and MSN Messenger.
If you want to use the network card for both "Work" and "The Internet", here
is the way I did it on my X50v:
- Leave the "My network card connects to" setting as "Work"
- Go to Start -> Settings -> Connections -> Connections
- In Advanced tab, tap on "Select Networks"
- Set *both* drop-down boxes to "My Work Network" and tap OK
- If you now look back at the "Tasks" tab, you will see that you only have
one network listed in there now
If you tap on "Set up my proxy server" you will see that Connection Manager
has already checked "This network connects to the Internet". This should
allow you to use your wireless connection for both "Work" and "The
Internet".
Hope that helps,
Darren
