Greetings,

From every article I read, and even the active sync 4.2b help file, there
should be a "Device Address" option in the schedule window, to allow me to
configure my AD/EX account for "Always Up To Date" functionality, through
SMS notifications.

But, there isn't.
4.1 nothing, and just tried 4.2beta to be sure.

Is it because of the device?
Is this option removed in Mobile 5.0?
Or maybe the provider? (Bell Mobility)
It's a brand new UTStarcom PPC 6700.
I got the exchange sync working, but it's running on a 5 to 10 minute delay,
even with it set to "pickup immediately as soon as there is new data".
But there has never been any way to tell it how to notify.

So, any thoughts?

Did they remove it in favour of the Push technology?

I have 2003sp2 here, but I don't think the phone has any update.

All ideas appreciated.

Thanks,
Andrew

TO add info:

Version of device is:
OS 5.1.195 (build 14928.2.2.0)

From what I can see, it is post updates, and should have the direct push. I
can even see an option on one screen, to disable direct push.
Another article, suggested that the updated 5.0 mobile, could also look up
people in your GAL, and I can indeed go "online" and do that.

But, then, there must be something, somewhere, that tells Ex2003sp2, how or
where to push TO.... shouldn't there?

Or does it just figure it all out on it's own, based on initial sync done by
the PPC?

Thanks,
Andrew

Hi,
ActiveSync on your desktop has nothing to do with AUTD or Push E-Mail. This
is because AUTD and Push E-Mail are configured on the Exchange server for
your account and are only active when you sync directly with your Exchange
2003 server. Further Push E-Mail requires Exchange 2003 SP2 and AKU2 for
the UTStarcom 6700.

Did you install the latest rom for the 6700?

Hi Chris, and thanks for replying. :-)

Sorry if this server-sync stuff is out of place for this newsgroup, but it
was the closest one I could see listed, from the Mobile site.

The question of the latest rom, is "yes, I think so".

I have not updated the device at all, but, it's only 4 days old. Roms are
device and carrier specific, from what I can see, so there is nothing new
for a PPC6700 and Bell Mobility.

However, going by the version numbers I listed in my second posting,
compared to articles found on the web, I'm pretty sure I have a "post AKU2"
version.
In the "master shutoff screen" (where you can quickly disable phone, wi-fi,
bluetooth, etc) there is a button there to disable/enable what it calls
"Microsoft DirectPush".

Thus, my sort of self-conclusion, that I have a current enough rom.

I am also running Ex2003, sp2.

Mobile services are enabled (checked off) on the server, but there really
aren't any other settings or tools or even status pages that I can find on
the Exchange System manager to verify or validate anything about activesync.

New emails seem to make it to the device, within about 10-13mins of
arriving, and when checking the active-sync on the device, it's never more
than 10 minutes since the last time it says it sync'd with the exchange
server.

My impression of the Push idea however, was that it should be faster than
that.

Shouldn't it?

Is there something I'm missing on the server side?
I did try and run one of the utils MS offers for wiping remote devices. (I
didn't actually do the wipe)
But, in the "who do you want to wipe", it did show my mailbox, and a PPC
device ID for me.

The two things I "don't get" at this point are:
A. Should it be quicker, and more "live" than I am seeing? (akin to the
former SMS AUTD system I have only read about, and never used)
B. How does the Exchange 2003 server possibly push out to the device, if I
have never configured the device on it, or in AD? Does it somehow magically
pickup the return path to the device, after the initial sync that the device
initiated?

Thanks to you, and all who even read this. :-)
Any help appreciated.
Right now, it's for me, but if I can prove it out, I have a customer who
would like to implement about 25 of these things.... :-)
Andrew

Thanks,
Andrew
