I have a Sony Vaio w/ Media center 2005, ATI Radon x600 xt. My question is
should I update my ATI drivers and Catalyst Control Center to the newest one?
I dont know that much about graphic cards, drivers....etc
I assume the their updates provide improvemnets. ATI web site is not user
friendly at all. It has lots of conflicting information on it. It says to
update to the newest drivers and control center for improvements/new
functionality and that the current control panel will be obsolete soon and
then in another section it says "Installing a new driver is only recommended
if you are having issues with your ATI product"

Basically should I update?

Are you having any issues with your current drivers? If not, I'd tend to
leave them alone...

Go to the download page for the new drivers and read the release notes and
you can find out what changes they have made recently. In the last couple
of months they have quite a few good bug fixes and other improvements. The
second message you saw is probably always there and the first message you
saw is most likely more valid.

I have a Vaio desktop (RA910G) with the x600xt ATI video card and I am now
running ATI 6.3 without issue. There seems to be better response. A newer
version 6.4 is available and I will update this weekend.

When updating, be sure to remove the old drivers first using Add/Remove.
Then install the new drivers and reboot.

The issue of whether to update or not is yours. Sony does not seem to offer
the most recent drivers unless there is a need.

I would say "Installing a new driver is only recommended
if you are having issues" if it ain't broke... don't fix it.
