I have installed the driver for an ATI Radeon 9000 notebook card with
much improved OpenGL performance. Others use the Omega driver hack but
I've never had much luck with it. Most notebook vendors seem to be
issuing ATI driver updates at least through the first year of life of
the notebook so this is good for your card if your vendor has never
provided an updated ATI driver. This begs the question of what ATI
might have improved for older drivers, but at least you can test the
latest Catalyst on an older card for yourself. I frankly am surprised
at the OpenGL improvement I see since my card is at least three years
old and I thought that the driver for my card would have been cast in
stone after the first year when I applied the mod.
