But realisticly who would have a SmartPhone with a data plan and a Service
without VoiceMail? This application just seems like a total waste of money
and storage.

Well, a lot of people would prefer not having to use an operator-side
voicemail. Remember it's rather costly in many countries.

This is why there has always been a lot of people asking for this kind of
stuff on all WinMo boards; see for example the posts at XDA-Devs or on my
blog asking for such an app.

There are a number of reasons I can see for a phone answering machine
app... a couple.

Privacy
Access to Voice Messages without connection or landline (albeit a double
edged sword ;-)
forwarding and archive options
potential of customized announcements based on cid
cost

I suspect the prior poster has a mobile operator that includes voicemail at
no additional charge. This is common in the USA, anyway- all operatoers
include voicemail in the cost of service.

While it may be included with our plans, minutes to access is isn't -- when
you call to check voicemail, the minutes clock is ticking. There are times
when it would be nice to have something like this running instead of
utilizing the carrier voicemail -- other times maybe not. The option of
both would be nice though, but from the look of things -- this program isn't
the one to provide that option, looks rather non-intuitive. Hopefully a
more polished solution will surface someday ;)
