I have Exchange Server 2003, SP2 installed, i have the new 700w Treo from
Verizon, if i set it to Sync every 5 minutes it works fine, but soon as I
set it to Sync as Items arrives it never syncs, nor does it get a email
right away.
Also, after you install the latest updater:
http://www.palm.com/us/support/downloads/treo700wupdater/verizon.html?creativeID=RFB|700w_update_msfp#before
there is no more "Device Address" field.
This is very frustrating, i have a full signal, unlimited data plan, and the
active sync works when set to 5 minutes, but it wont do it automatically,
before i did the update i had my device address in the field and when i sent
a email to it the phone received the text message phone.
Any ideas?
I dont have SSL enabled on the phone, when i enable it errors out, when its
not enabled it syncs fine manually etc...
Should I re install active sync 4.1? If so, how do i re install it on the
device?
Thanks,
Tommy

The older "sync as items arrive" required the Exchange server to send an SMS
message to the device. This was interpreted by the device as a trigger to
initiate the sync process. Therefore the Exchange server needed a device
address so it knew where to send the SMS to. This means Exchange needs to be
configured dcorrectly to allow sending of SMS messages, without awkward
wrappers and disclaimers around them.
The newer "sync as items arrive" requires Exchange SP2 and AKU2 on the
devices (just shipped last week or so for the Treo 700W). This uses the open
IP channel from the device to Exchange in order for Exchange to notify the
device that there are messages waiting to be synced. Therefore, Exchange no
longer needs the device address, as it doesn't use SMS anymore.
I wonder if your company firewall is preventing the communication being
initiated outbound from the Exchange front-end server??
Cheers, Chris

Please log in for more thread options I had the same lack of success with as "items arrives" and just forgot about
it. I have my phone setup to sync every 10 minutes during peak and every 4
hours during off peak which works perfectly for me.
