Kingston is making them, and according to the research I've done, are
theoretically supported by the Santa Rosa chipset/motherboard. The
part number is KVR667D2S5K2/8G . Search and ye shall find. I haven't
actually received mine yet, but it's supposed to be in route.

Yes, they're expensive ($750-950), and No, I wouldn't possibly
recommend them for everyone. For my needs, it could have been twice
the price and I still would have paid it.

Yes, I need 8GB in my laptop. The last software I installed required
two VMs, one with 3.2GB of RAM (minimum) and the other with 3GB
(minimum). I travel constantly, and the only option I have for running
this software is to carry two laptops, which isn't very fun through
security. So as you can see, I have a very unique need - no one
process I run will be using more than 4GB of RAM, but I still need to
8GB for the combination of applications I have to run simultaneously.

Just received the memory and installed it, and it works like a champ.
Vista Ultimate x64 sees all of it, and booted immediately. It took me
just 3 business days to get it from:

I don't know how hard it is to convert a server into a desktop. But if
you like memory, I hear tell that servers can have 64GB or more of RAM.

The issue usually is not the hardware (although it can be), it is the
OS. Most servers are running Unix or Linux.

Well Windows XP 32-bit is limited to 4GB. But the 64 bit version is
supposed to handle 128GB.
