I bought a 3com 802.11g X-jack pcmcia card off ebay, and immediately I
installed it (using the newest driver off 3com's site) I got crazy CPU
spiking which would lock up my notebook every few seconds or so.
Disable the card, problem goes away.
I checked in Device Manager when it's installed, says everything's
fine, no conflicts.
Any ideas?

Incorrect driver installation? Check the docs, make sure that the
driver is not to be installed before inserting the card the first time.

It is to be installed first, yes, without the card inserted: there's an
installer app on the cd which starts up OK but hangs at an early screen
marked 'Configuring Your System' - hangs all day if necessary, I left
it all afternoon.
So I cancelled that, put the card in and let winXP find it and browsed
Install Hardware to the driver on the cd. Windows thought it installed
fine.
Then I get the cpu spikes as described above.
