Hi everyone,

I've heard complaints from some of my friends who own Toshiba laptops.
Apparently (and I've heard from at 3 three people) the laptops just
suddenly shut themselves down, without warning.

Is this due to memory, overheating or some other CPU problem? Does
anyone have any idea? I've used Toshiba laptops before (even wrote
reviews of some of them for magazines), but I've never encountered any
problems.

Best Regards,
Gary Hendricks

It would be nice to know the model numbers that are experiencing this
problem. I've used Toshiba laptops for years (presently have two of them),
and I have never had this problem.

It was a well-documented phenomenon with certain models:

I have a Toshiba laptop, the A75-S213. It would suddenly shut down. I =
started to blow out the air vents and fan holes every 6 months with an =
air compressor. Since I started doing this the problem has not come =
back. I could see the dust come out when blowing it out.

You can tell when it is starting to clog with dust when the fan starts =
running more often.

Hope this helps.

Among other problems, static electricity discharging through a poorly
designed keyboard has caused my Toshiba M35X-S149 to do just what you
described, after I had used it for 18 months. There was a class action
lawsuit over this & other models (see http://www.lorisklar.com/ & follow its
links from "our cases"), which resulted in an extended warranty that ended
11/2007. It was fixed by adding conductive tape between various parts of
the keyboard & the motherboard.
This was my fourth Toshiba laptop. It gave me more trouble than the
other 3 put together, so it will be my last Toshiba laptop. Google
"Toshiba class action" for more details than you are probably interested in
knowing about.
