On the phone, somewhere under the Settings area, there should be the
opportunity to set the name of the device. Try under the bluetooth settings?

I'm kind of surprised that happens. Normally you cannot have two units with
the same name. AS won't allow the partnership to be set up. On PPCs there is
a place to change the name. I have had later versions of AS prompt me for a
new name but I'm not sure if it was the version of AS that did that or it
did it because they were phones. I don't think there is a user accessible
spot to change the name on a Smartphone BTW. At least there isn't on mine.
I've had to resort to registry editors.

That is what I thought..... unfortunately, changing the name in the
Bluetooth settings only changes it for the Bluetooth connectivity. It
doesn't seem (on my C500 SmartPhone Windows 2003 device) to change it for
the USB sync area.

Sven is likely to be correct, and a register change is needed.
