Recently restored Media Center 2005 to prior time. The updates for ehome
transceiver and other updates that I installed prior to the restore still
appear in Add/Remove Programs as an Update. When I go to Windows Update on
the Web, it says correctly that the Updates are not installed and they are
listed as available to install. These are the Optional Updates since the
critical updates seem to have been reinstalled thru automatic updates. I
was not going to reinstall the optional updates since this PC is only 2
weeks old and doesn't even appear on the Gateway site yet I wasn't sure if I
really needed them (I should have waited and not installed them). They are
all updates that say they can't be uninstalled so I am wondering if I will
have to reinstall them to get everything work properly.
Also, seem to be having problem with Outlook Express News Reader. I use
Outlook 2003 for mail so I did not want to create an email account in
Outlook Express. When I try to create just a newsgroup in my Power User
Account in Outlook Express, it tells me that the address book could not be
loaded and I may have to reinstall Outlook Express. I believe this is
because I chose not to create an email account in Outlook Express since I
use Outlook 2003 for email. Wasn't sure if this is because I need to
reinstall the Outlook Express Updates or whether it is going to make me
create the email account in order to use the Newsreader.
I would really appreciate a response from anyone since I must get this PC
working properly.
The Office Trial says that all updates are installed even though I did not
reinstall them yet so I am not sure if they are there or not.
