Dear gurus,
what about this laptop?
My desktop is close to pass away. A good mobo (thinking to the future)
costs around 300 =80 (keeping old CPU, MEM and so on), I have to replace
also the power supply Now this Amilo Pi 2512 costs about 399 =80 and I
am confused.
Here some spects:
CPU Intel Dual Core T2330 1.60GHz, 533MHz FSB, Cache 1MB L2
RAM 2x512MByte DDR2
Hard Disk 120GByte
Video Board Intel GMA X3100, up to 251MB shared
Audio built-in + Stereo speakers
DVDRW Dual (+/-) Double Layer
Display 15.4'' LCD WXGA TFT BrillantView, 1280x800 @ 16.7M Colors
Modem 56K V.92 / Fax 14.4K V.17
LAN Wired Ethernet 10/100 Base-TX, Intel PRO/Wireless LAN 3945ABG
802.11a/b/g Dual-Band Tri-Mode WiFi Certified
(LxPxA) 358x255x28/36mm, 2.8Kg
3 USB 2.0, VGA, RJ-11, RJ-45, Slot ExpressCard (34/54mm), Input Line/
Mic., Out Head with S/PDIF, reader 4-in-1 (SD/MS/MMC/MSPro)
Battery LiIon (up to 3h)
Software Windows Vista Home Basic
The chipset is 960GL, so maybe we can upgrade the CPU for a a Core2
Duo with very few money.
What about the quality? And the DISPLAY

If your computer needs are email, web browsing, and Microsoft Office (or
similar) usage, then this notebook is just able.
For better performance 2GB RAM is nice. No upgrade is likely to be
possible for the CPU since finding one is the problem.

tnx for your answer. Did you say 'just' because of the low power of
this nb, the quality or something else? The PC which is going to
replace is a P4 2.4GHz 1 Gb ram,
and it was enough for my needs until now.

You know, I'm not so sure that you will see any performance improvement
over your older notebook, given the increased OS overhead imposed by
Vista - even if you turn off the visual features of Vista to make it
more like XP. I have a 2.8Ghz notebook, 512KB RAM and compared to my
new 2.2Ghz Core2Duo, 2GB RAM, there just isn't much difference in
*apparent* performance. In fact, the Vista file system is noticeably
slower, network ops are slower, web pages open more slowly, etc. I
often have both computers open side-by-side, and the old XP in these
instances *feels* markedly more responsive.
OTOH, one has to update old, failing equipment and I don't think that
you'll be wasting your money on that notebook, but I would try for 2GB
Ram to make it the best it can be.
